Here’s the twist: knowing the shops might be closed is actually a gift. It forces you to get creative. Instead of a frantic shopping spree, you might host a “what’s in the pantry” challenge with your family. You know the drill—canned beans, that forgotten bag of frozen peas, and a box of instant pudding. Suddenly, you’re making a legendary snack platter that everyone will talk about for years. Admit it: that’s way more fun than queuing at a checkout.
Plus, a closed shop means more time for an Easter egg hunt that doesn’t feel rushed. You can hide the eggs in truly ridiculous places (behind the sofa cushion? inside a boot?). Who cares if you forgot to buy more chocolate? You can use foil-wrapped potatoes and call them “golden nuggets.”
The Wisdom of Being Prepared
Here’s a little secret: the “shops open or not?” panic is really just a reminder to plan a bit ahead. Buy your milk on Saturday. Get your ham or hot cross buns a day early. Lastly, remember the real reason this question matters: it’s a day to pause. Whether you celebrate the religious meaning, the arrival of spring, or just the excuse to wear a bunny onesie, having nowhere to shop means you get to be present. No errands. No crowds. Just you, some family or friends, and that slightly burnt but loving Easter brunch you whipped up from leftovers.
