Here’s where it gets real. You still have to fill out forms. Boring, I know. But the staff are genuinely lovely. They speak to you like a human, not a malfunctioning computer. If you mess up the form, they’ll laugh it off and hand you a new one.
You need to book an appointment for a notice of marriage. This is basically you saying, “Hey, we promise we’re not bigamists or aliens.” It costs about £35 per person (in 2026). And you need to do it at least 28 days before the big day. Plan ahead! Do not be the person trying to book a wedding for next Saturday. That’s rookie behaviour.

The “Oh No, My Passport” Moment
But wait! What if you’re not getting married? What if you just need a passport check or a copy of a certificate? No problem. The register office has a counter service for all that boring but essential stuff.
You can order a copy of a birth, death, or marriage certificate online or in person. And if you lose your passport two days before a holiday? Panic not. They can sort you out with a certified copy of your birth certificate. Just don’t lose it again, okay? We’re not made of certified copies.
