NG2 3NG. It’s a weird little string of letters and numbers. But it’s the home of local democracy. The place where “we’ll look into it” actually happens (sometimes).
If you type it into Google Maps, you’ll find a big, blocky building. It’s not pretty, but it’s functional. Like a Swiss army knife for city services. A very large, concrete Swiss army knife.
Fun fact: It’s close to the Broadmarsh area. You know, that car park-turned-construction-site? The council folks watch the chaos from their windows. Irony at its finest.
Nottingham City Council facing yet more cuts as £26m budget gap opens
Visiting for the First Time?
Don’t be nervous. It’s just a building. Go in, take a number, and wait. The chairs are surprisingly comfortable. I’m not kidding. They’re like thrones for the patiently annoyed.
Look at the artwork on the walls. It’s local stuff, and it’s actually good. Someone in the council has taste. Maybe it’s the same person who chose the chairs.
And if you’re lucky, you’ll spot a councilor. They’re the ones in suits looking slightly stressed. Don’t ask them about the budget. Just nod and smile.
