Because throwing away perfectly good rice is like throwing away a dollar bill. We’ve all got better things to waste money on.
Also, food waste is a huge deal. When you toss out expired rice that’s still edible, you’re sending it to a landfill where it rots and makes methane gas.
So saving that bag of rice is a tiny win for your wallet and the planet. That’s a double win.
But What About Instant Rice?
Instant or minute rice is usually precooked and dried. It’s a little more delicate than raw rice.
Check the package for any funky smell or discoloration. If it’s past its prime, it might taste papery or flat, but it won’t hurt you.
Just don’t expect it to magically become fluffy again after three years in the back of the cabinet.
