Bartolome de las Casas was not just some random guy who decided to write a book about the Indies. He was a dominican friar who had seen it all and was like, "I've got to do something about this!" He traveled to the New World and saw the destruction firsthand, and it's like, his heart was broken.
He wrote to the King of Spain and was like, "Hey, you've got to stop this madness!" But the king was all, "Nah, we're good, we're just going to keep conquering and exploiting." And Bartolome de las Casas was like, "No way, I'm going to keep fighting for the rights of the Native Americans."
