The internet loves a panic. People write theories like: “Steve dies because he’s too happy!” That’s a joke. Steve is never happy. He’s constantly stressed out by kids and monsters. His life is a sitcom with demon bats. Killing him would be bad comedy. The Duffer Brothers are smarter than that. They know we need someone with bad hair advice and good instincts.
Also, consider the merchandise. Steve action figures sell like hotcakes. Hasbro makes a “Steve with Nail Bat” toy. You don’t kill the toy cash cow. It’s basic business, folks. Follow the money. The money leads to Steve’s living room.
The Biggest Clue: Dustin Henderson
If Steve dies, who will Dustin be a nerd with? No one. Eddie Munson is gone. This season, Dustin needs Steve. Their relationship is the heart of the show. It’s a brotherhood of dorks. If Steve died, Dustin would cry for three episodes. The show would become a drama. Stranger Things is about friendship, not funerals.

Plus, Steve has a new arc. He flips his hair. He chases Nancy. He’s becoming a leader. You don’t lead a character to growth and then kill them. That’s bad writing. And this show is built on good writing and synth music.
