Here’s the cool part: Morocco is famously traditional about this. While some countries follow calculations or a global announcement, Morocco insists on a local physical sighting. It’s a source of national pride, honestly.
They have a whole network of trusted witnesses—religious experts, astronomers, and even regular folks. Everyone reports to the ministry, and they make the call. It feels like a community treasure hunt, doesn’t it?

The 2026 Twist
April 2026 is going to be interesting. The new moon will be very young and very faint on the expected sighting evening. That means there’s a real chance the sky could be “empty” on the first try.
Don’t you love that tension? It’s like waiting for your favorite band to come on stage, and the lights are off, and you just know they’re about to start.
If the moon hides, Eid moves to April 11th. If it shows up, you get your feast on April 10th. Either way, the whole country finds out together at prayer time.
