Let’s talk about the fact that Eid Ul Fitr 2026 in the UK will probably start on a Thursday or a Saturday, depending on which mosque council you follow. It’s the great British tradition of Moon-Sighting Schism Number 47. You will have three different neighbours celebrating on three different days. I find this hilarious. It means you get to say "Eid Mubarak" for a solid four days straight, and nobody is wrong.
My personal theory is that the moon just gets stage fright over the UK. It sees the grey clouds over Manchester and decides to wait an extra 24 hours. Meanwhile, the rest of us are stuck in a limbo of “is it Eid or isn’t it?” on social media. Pro tip: just bake the cookies anyway. Trust no one. Trust the sheikhs, but also trust your own lying eyes when you see the crescent.
The 5AM Wardrobe Panic
Fast forward to the actual morning of Eid. You’ve survived the 30-day hunger games of Ramadan. You are spiritually cleansed. You are pure. You also can’t find your iron. The specific outfit you planned in January—the one with the matching dupatta—is now crumpled in a ball under your bed. You will spend 15 minutes wrestling with a shalwar kameez that seems to have shrunk in the wash. It didn’t shrink. You got a little rounder. It’s fine. It’s a holiday for forgiveness, including forgiving your jeans.

In the UK, the Eid prayer is a logistical nightmare wrapped in a blessing. You drive 40 minutes to a massive sports hall in Wembley or a rented community centre that usually hosts badminton tournaments. You walk in, and the entire floor is a sea of prayer mats, perfumes (oud and Dior Sauvage fighting for dominance), and the smell of fresh chai leaking from a hundred thermoses. Kids are running between the rows. An aunty with a sequined handbag is loudly asking who parked her in. Pure, uncut community.
