OU has graduated some heavy hitters. For example, James Garner (the actor from “The Rockford Files”) went here, and so did Brad Pitt—though he dropped out to move to Hollywood. We don’t blame him; the film department is great, but the sunsets in L.A. are free.
Other notable Sooners: Van Heflin (Oscar winner), Garth Brooks (you’ve heard of him), and Dr. Judith Zaffiro, who invented a type of biodegradable plastic. So yes, OU grads save lives, act, and make you cry to “The Dance” on a deserted road.

Also, the Boeing 737 design team included several OU engineers. So next time you fly, thank a Sooner.
The Real Secret: Norman is Weirdly Awesome
The town of Norman, where OU lives, has a giant peanut statue, a thoroughbred horse racing track, and a restaurant called “The Diner” where the waitresses call you “hon.” It’s the kind of place where you can buy a cowboy hat and a sushi roll at the same grocery store.
And every spring, the Medieval Fair hits town. Students dress up as knights, jugglers, and wizards. So if you see a guy in chainmail arguing with a calculus professor, just smile and keep walking.
