Labrador puppies are like bottomless pits with fur. But resist those big, begging eyes. Overfeeding a Lab is the #1 way to create a wobbly, unhealthy dog.
General rule: three to four small meals a day until they’re about six months old. Then drop to two meals. Check the feeding guide on your food bag—it’s tailored to your pup’s weight and age.
A typical 8-week-old Lab needs about 1.5 to 2 cups of food per day, split into meals. At 6 months, that jumps to 2.5 to 3 cups. But every dog is different—watch their waistline. If you can’t feel their ribs, they’re eating too much (or you’re bad at rib-finding).
Puppy Portion Cheat Sheet (Sort Of)
At 2-3 months: ½ cup per meal, three times a day. At 4-5 months: ¾ cup per meal, three times. At 6-12 months: 1 to 1.5 cups per meal, twice daily.
These are guidelines, not laws. Your puppy might be a growing machine or a picky nibbler. Just don’t let them turn into a chunky potato—Labradors are prone to obesity, and joint problems suck.
