Just last Tuesday, I was trying to fix a leaky faucet. YouTube showed me a dozen “professional” videos with soothing music and expensive tools. I didn’t understand a word.
Then I remembered Don’s video on plumbing with duct tape and a prayer. I found an old backup of it on my hard drive. He used a coat hanger and a bit of rubber band. My faucet still leaks a little, but I smiled the whole time I tried.
He made fixing things feel like an adventure, not a chore. That’s a gift.
The Sound of His Voice
His voice was part of the magic. He had this low, gravelly tone, like he just woke up from a nap on a porch swing. He never yelled or rushed.
He’d say things like, “Alright, let’s give this a try, and if it breaks, we’ll learn something.” That is a life philosophy. Not just for fixing things, but for living.
We need more voices like that. Voices that don’t demand perfection.
