Expect to smell burnt rubber and popcorn within the first ten minutes. Your ears will ring, your throat will get hoarse from screaming, and you’ll probably spill soda on your jeans. But here’s the thing: you won’t care. Because while two monster trucks are side-by-side, roaring and bouncing, your brain finally stops stressing about the mortgage.
The Darkness
There’s also the Freestyle segment, where drivers just go nuts. They do donuts, hit ramps backwards, and crush a row of old hatchbacks like they’re stepping on ants. It’s the closest thing to a video game power-up you’ll ever see in real life.
How to survive and thrive (the dad/mum guide)
First, buy earplugs. Yes, for the kids, but mostly for you. The sound of a 1,500-horsepower engine bouncing off an arena wall is like standing inside a drum solo. Second, arrive early to watch the “pit party,” where you can walk right up to the trucks. Your kid will get a high-five from a driver whose hands are covered in grease. That’s a photo you’ll frame.
Also, bring cash for the overpriced glow sticks. Trust me, when the lights go down and the trucks start shooting flames, your child will want to wave something that glows. Don’t be the parent who says “no, we have glow sticks at home.” We both know you don’t.
