Let’s be honest, we all go to garden centres for the cake. The café here is dangerous. It’s a big, airy space with windows overlooking the plant sales. You can sit, sip a brew, and judge other people’s plant choices. I won’t judge you for doing it.
The scones are the size of your fist. And they have real clotted cream. Not that squirty stuff from a can, which is frankly a crime against tea-time. I had the carrot cake. It was so moist it practically winked at me.
Side note for the brave: The queue at peak times (Sunday 11am) is like the queue for a rock concert. But it moves fast, and the reward is hot chips and a panini. Strategic planning is advised. Go on a Tuesday afternoon if you can. You’ll feel like a VIP.

This is where the irony peaks. You go in for a trowel, you leave with a scented candle called “Autumn Embers” and a wooden spoon you didn’t need. It’s a lovely little rabbit warren of things you can absolutely live without but suddenly must own.

They have decent furniture too. I spotted a bench that I’m still dreaming about. It’s the kind of place where you can buy a gift that doesn’t look like you panic-bought it at a petrol station. There’s taste here. Real taste.
