You know that sneaky little button in the top-right corner of the Home tab? It looks like a Greek letter (sigma, if you’re fancy). Click the dropdown next to it. See where it says Average? Click that.
Now, just highlight the numbers you want to average. Boom. Excel spits out the result in the cell below your selection. It’s so easy that I feel guilty charging my friends for tech support when I show them this.
One tiny warning: blank cells don’t count, but cells with a zero do count. That’s what my friend Carol learned the hard way when her “perfect” expense report averaged a sad $12. Ouch.
