Scotland doesn’t follow the same rules for Easter or Summer. For instance, they don’t get the Late Summer Bank Holiday in August.
Instead, they have their own St. Andrew’s Day on 30th November, which can substitute if it falls on a weekend. Plus, they enjoy the Edinburgh August Holiday—yes, that’s a real thing.

If you’re in Northern Ireland, you get St. Patrick’s Day (17th March) and the Battle of the Boyne (12th July) as bank holidays. So they’re sitting pretty with ten days total.
The “Working Week” Trap
Here’s a reality check: eight bank holidays sounds generous, but most of them cluster around April and May. From June to December, you’re basically running on fumes until Winter.
I’ve seen friends plan entire summer vacations around August 31st, only to realize they’re not getting a three-day weekend in September. It’s a cruel trick.
My advice? Use the early-year holidays to pace your annual leave. Book a Thursday and Friday off in May, and suddenly you have a five-day window.
