Most standard glass or plastic pitchers you’ll find in a kitchen or at a restaurant hold 64 fluid ounces of water. That’s exactly half a gallon, or about 8 cups. But—and here’s the ironic part—that’s only if your pitcher is the “classic” size.
You see, pitchers are like snowflakes: no two are exactly the same. Some fancy carafes are tiny (32 ounces), while those giant party pitchers can hold up to 96 ounces. So, before you pour, you might want to check the bottom of the pitcher for a label. Or just do what I did: guess and hope for the best.
