Your Keurig will give you signs, like a dramatic roommate. If your coffee tastes flat, or you notice a weird plastic-y or mineral aftertaste, it’s time. That’s the filter screaming, “I’m done, buddy!”
Another clue: if your Keurig starts slowing down or making gurgling sounds like it’s trying to digest a bad burrito. That’s mineral buildup blocking the flow. A fresh filter is like a glass of water for a parched throat—instant relief.
The Visual Check (No Bucket Required)
Open the filter drawer and peek at the cartridge. If it’s discolored, slimy, or has visible gunk, you’ve waited too long. It should look like a clean, white piece of plastic, not something you’d find in a swamp. If it looks like a science experiment, toss it.
You can also sniff the water reservoir. If it smells like old gym sock or chlorine, yeah, the filter is done. Fresh water should smell like... nothing. That’s the goal.
