To put that in perspective: that’s taller than three football fields stacked on end. Or imagine 97 double-decker buses balanced on top of each other. Ridiculous, right?
It’s the tallest building in Western Europe. It laughs at the Eiffel Tower (yeah, the Eiffel Tower is only 986 feet with its antennas). Poor Paris.
Even the One World Trade Center in New York is just a hair taller at 1,776 feet. So London’s Shard is no slouch, but it’s not that slouch.
The Shard Height
But Is It Actually the Tallest?
Technically, yes. But some people get pedantic. They’ll say, “What about the BT Tower? Or the London Eye?” Cute. The BT Tower is a 620-foot radio antenna. The Eye is a Ferris wheel. The Shard is a building with people inside, working and sipping overpriced champagne.
So yes. It’s the tallest occupied structure in the UK. Playground rules apply here.
