Do not adjust the flame while the fire is on. You will either burn your hand or create a gas leak that smells like a thousand rotten eggs. The egg smell is added on purpose—it’s the gas company’s version of a screaming alarm. If you smell it, open a window, leave the house, and call a professional. Do not just “check if it’s fine.” It is never fine.
Also, do not shove a chopstick into the pilot light assembly. That’s not a thing. I saw a video of a man doing that. He now does not have bangs.
