If you’re not a fan of typing, you can also apply by post. Find the application form at a Post Office or download one from TfL. Fill it in with a pen—remember those?—and post it with your photo and a cheque. Cheque. It feels like sending a message in a bottle, but it works.
Just be prepared to wait a bit longer. The postal service moves at the speed of a council meeting, so allow up to three weeks. Meanwhile, you’ll be watching younger people tap their contactless cards and muttering, “Just you wait, sonny.”
