1. “What’s 25% of 80?”
Easy. Convert 25% to a decimal (0.25) and multiply by 80. That’s 20. Or cheat: 25% is one-quarter, so 80 divided by 4 = 20. See? You just did mental math while making coffee. You’re a genius.
2. “I scored 45 out of 60. What’s my grade?”
Stick to the formula: 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75. Times 100 = 75%. That’s a solid C+. But if your teacher uses a curve? Suddenly 75% might be an A, and everyone cries. Percentages are social chameleons.
3. “My salary went from $50,000 to $55,000. How big is the raise?”
Calculate the difference first: $5,000. Then divide by the old amount: $5,000 ÷ $50,000 = 0.10. Multiply by 100 = 10%. That’s a raise! But remember: a 10% raise today might feel like 0% after inflation. Percentages play tricks.
