If typing functions feels like a chore, there’s a shortcut. Look for the Σ (the sigma symbol) in the toolbar. It usually lives right near the menu bar. Click that little guy.
A dropdown menu appears with options like SUM, COUNT, and AVERAGE. Click AVERAGE. Then highlight your numbers and hit Enter. Boom. Done. No typing required. You’re basically a spreadsheet wizard now.
What If You Want the Average of Only Certain Values?
Alright, now we’re getting fancy. Say you only want the average of sales from Tuesdays. Or only cells that are greater than 10. That’s when you use AVERAGEIF or AVERAGEIFS.
The syntax looks scary, but it’s just one more layer. For example: =AVERAGEIF(A2:A10, ">10"). This will average only the numbers bigger than 10 in that range. I told you it’s playful.
You can even use words, like averaging only cells that say “High Priority.” It reads your mind. Almost.
