First stop: your phone. Most of us carry a digital version without realising it. Open the NHS App or log into the NHS website.
NHS Number Leaflet | PDF
Your number is waiting there, usually under “Your Details” or “Profile.” It’s like finding a tenner in an old coat pocket—except this tenner gets you a prescription.
If you’re not the app type (and no judgement, we all have that one paper pile), check any official NHS letter. Your number is almost always printed near the top, next to your name and address. Look for the phrase “NHS Number:” followed by ten digits.
The classic “look in the kitchen drawer” method
Let’s be real: everyone has that one drawer. You know the one—it holds takeaway menus, dead batteries, and letters from 2017.
Dig through it gently. Somewhere in there is an old hospital appointment letter or a repeat prescription slip. The number is always on prescription labels, too—right on the side of the box.
Pro tip: take a photo of that letter with your phone. Future you will thank past you when you’re in a pharmacy queue at 6pm.
