Grab a roll of clear packing tape or a piece of sticky lint roller. If you have neither, a piece of regular Scotch tape works, but you’ll be doing a lot of tiny, repetitive dabbing. Consider it an arm workout.
Press the sticky side gently onto the pollen spots. Do not press so hard that you fuse it to the fibers. We’re trying to gently lift the dust, not iron it into a museum piece.
Peel the tape off slowly. Watch in awe as the bright orange grains stick to the tape instead of your shirt. It’s like magic, except the magician is you, and the trick is “not ruining date night.” Repeat until you’ve lifted the bulk of the mess.
The “Purse Emergency” Hack
What if you’re out to brunch or at a wedding and don’t have a hardware store in your handbag? Use a dry paper napkin or the back of a receipt to gently brush the pollen off the fabric. Brush, don’t swipe.
Alternatively, use your dry, clean hand to do a gentle “sweeping” motion. Pretend you’re shooing a fly that is made of pure pigment. Every grain you remove now is one less grain that will set later.
How to Get Lily Pollen Out of Clothes
Seriously, don’t even think about dabbing it with a wet wipe. That’s the pollination equivalent of throwing gasoline on a campfire.
