This is the nuclear option for pH raising, and it’s also the simplest. Baking soda is essentially sodium bicarbonate, and it’s a base. Drop a tiny pinch—like one-eighth of a teaspoon—into a glass of water, stir, and boom. Your pH just shot up by a whole point or more.
Warning: Do not overdo it. Too much baking soda makes water taste like a salty, fizzy science experiment that went rogue. You’ll be puckering like you bit into a lemon wrapped in a salt lick.
Fun fact: baking soda is so good at this that some athletes use it to buffer lactic acid in their muscles. But they measure it carefully. You’re not an Olympic swimmer (probably), so start with a tiny pinch.
