Take a separate, long piece of yarn (about 12 inches) and slide it between the cardboard and your cut strands. Wrap it around the center tightly and tie a double knot. Pull it as hard as you can without snapping the yarn. This knot is the pom pom’s soul.
If your knot is loose, you’ll have a sad, stringy disaster. A strong knot equals a proud, bouncy pom pom. Think of it as giving your creation a tiny, secure hug. Now, slide the cardboard out. It’s free at last.
