First, you need seeds. Go find a pinecone. Not the sad, closed ones on the ground. Find a fat, woody cone still clinging to a branch. Give it a good yank. You’re a squirrel now. Own it.
Take your prize home. Put it in a paper bag and leave it near a radiator. In a few days, it will crack open like a tiny wooden flower. Inside: the seeds. They might have little wings attached. That’s for flying. You are about to ground them forever.
Fun fact: A single pinecone can contain hundreds of seeds. But only a few will become trees. The rest? Squirrel snacks. It’s a harsh world out here.
