Nitrates sneak into your water the same way that leftover lasagna sneaks into your fridge on a Tuesday night—naturally and without asking. They come from things like lawn fertilizers, septic tanks, and that “organic” farm down the road. If you live near farm country, your groundwater basically went to a buffet of nitrogen-rich leftovers.
On its own, a little nitrate is fine. But too much? It’s like the neighbor who borrows your lawnmower and then never returns it—annoying and potentially unhealthy. High levels can mess with your blood’s oxygen delivery, especially for babies and pets. So, yeah, we need to kick those nitrates out.
