Not all blood oranges are created equal. The Moro (from Sicily) has the most dramatic, almost black-red flesh and a tart, berry-like punch. The Tarocco is sweeter, with a lighter red blush. Both go bad the same way, but Moros tend to break down a little faster because of their higher acidity and thinner skin. So buy Moros with a plan to eat them within a week—they’re the divas of the citrus world.
