You can test your pond. Or your fish tank. Or even your melted snow. Yes, snow has nitrates!
Test the water from a puddle after a storm. It’s usually dripping with fertilizers. Gross and fascinating.
Try testing tap water vs. bottled water. Most bottled water is just tap water. But guess what? It’s usually lower in nitrates. Mind blown.
If your water is really high, you can blame your neighbor. Not really. But it makes you feel better.
How to Fix It (Without Crying)
Buy a reverse osmosis system. It’s like a super-sophisticated coffee filter. It kicks nitrates out.
Or use a distiller. It boils water and catches the steam. That steam has zero nitrates. You turn into a cloud.
Activated carbon filters? Useless for nitrates. Don’t waste your money. Stick with RO or distilling.
