Now for the salt. You do not need to drain the whole brine tank. That’s overkill. Just stop adding salt. Let the system use up what’s in there naturally.
If you have a full brine tank and you’re leaving for a month, consider scooping out the top layer. Dry salt can clump into a concrete-like rock. “Oh, but it’s fine,” you say? No. It’s not. That rock will ruin your next regeneration.
Put the salt in a plastic bag for later. Or just use it for a DIY salt lamp. I don’t know your life. But seriously, prevent the salt bridge.
Clean the Brine Tank? Maybe. Or Just Lock It.
Wipe out any wet salt sludge from the brine tank floor. A few tablespoons of bleach in the bottom prevents bacteria growth. Don’t add salt on top of it. Just leave it empty and dry.
If you’re lazy (we’re friends, I get it), just close the lid tightly. Critters don’t like salt, but they don’t like stale water either. You decide your risk tolerance.
