Okay, let's get to the good stuff. Open a new Finder window on your Mac. You can click the blue smiley face icon on your Dock. In the sidebar, you'll see a list of places like "Desktop," "Downloads," and—bam—AirDrop. Click on that.
If AirDrop is off, you'll see a big blank window with a message like "Bluetooth is not available" or "AirDrop is turned off." Don't panic. It's just sleepy. Just click the link that says "Turn on Bluetooth" or look for the "Allow me to be discovered by" dropdown menu at the bottom of the window.
Choose Your Discovery Setting
Click that little dropdown menu. You have three choices: "No One," "Contacts Only," or "Everyone." If you're in a hurry or at a coffee shop, go for "Everyone" for just a minute. For daily life, "Contacts Only" is like having a VIP list for your files.
I keep mine on "Contacts Only" most of the time. That way, my coworker's silly meme lands on my desk, but not the stranger's weird PDF from across the train. It's a simple privacy win.
