There are two ways to do this. You can be intense or you can be chaotic. Both are valid. I’m a chaotic person myself.
The intense method: Print out a ballot. Make predictions. Argue with your partner about sound mixing. Feel superior when you guessed the Best Documentary winner. This way, you’re invested. You’ll care about things you’ve never even watched.
The chaotic method: Just watch for the bits. The musical numbers. The inevitable “who is that?” moment. The time a winner gets played off by the orchestra. You’re here for the memes. That’s okay. You’re a cultural tourist. No judgement.
The “I’ve Fallen Asleep” Plan
Real talk: you will drift off. It happens to the best of us. The speeches get long. The montages drag. Your sofa gets too comfortable. Don’t panic.
ITVX lets you rewind and pause. But the magic is live. So here’s the trick: set a vibrating alarm on your phone for the major categories. Best Actor. Best Picture. Best Dressed Pet. Wait, that’s not a category. It should be.
If you miss the Best Picture announcement, don’t cry. Just check your phone. People will have already made it into a hilarious GIF. You’ll catch up. The internet never forgets a flubbed line or a shocked face.
