So, is Aldershot a nice place to live? Yes, but not in the glossy, Instagram-worthy way. It’s nice in the way a cozy jumper is nice. It’s a little worn, a little mismatched, but it keeps you warm when it counts.
You won’t see it on a postcard, but you’ll see it in the way neighbours help carry your shopping when it’s raining. You’ll feel it in the crunch of autumn leaves at Manor Park. You’ll smell it in the mix of exhaust fumes and blooming wisteria on a warm June evening.
If you’re looking for a place that tries hard, that has character and a beating heart, and that lets you afford a decent life without a second mortgage, Aldershot deserves a chance. It might just surprise you, like it surprised me.
And if you do move here, say hello to Mittens the cat. He runs the place, really.
