Before you throw your trail mix in the trash, let’s pump the brakes. Compared to what? The classic debate: almond milk versus cow’s milk. This is where it gets really ironic.
A glass of dairy milk uses about four times more water than almond milk. And it produces nearly three times more greenhouse gases. So if you swapped cow’s milk for almond milk thinking you were doing better… you were. Kind of.
Almond milk also uses way less land than dairy. Cows need room to graze and fields to grow their feed. Almond trees just sit there, doing their thing. So for the planet’s real estate, almonds win.
But here’s the kicker: oat milk uses about 1/10th the water of almonds, and even less land. Insert “surprised Pikachu face” here. Oat milk is basically the golden retriever of plant milks: everyone loves it, and it’s hard to mess up.
