Let’s be honest: going to B&Q on a Bank Holiday is an experience. The car park is a battlefield of SUVs and vans, the aisles are full of people arguing about the “right” kind of drill bit, and the queue for the checkout feels like a pilgrimage. But it’s also magical in its own way—everyone there is united by the noble cause of home improvement.

You’ll see dads with clipboards, couples having passive-aggressive conversations about paint colours, and that one person buying 47 bags of gravel for no apparent reason. It’s chaos, but it’s our chaos. Embrace it.
And if the queue is too long? Just put your basket down, walk to the nearest café, and treat yourself to a scone. You’ve earned it. The paint will wait.
