Cheaper diesel in France has created a weird phenomenon: British truckers drive to France just to fill up. They treat it like a hobby. “Ooh, I’ll do a 300-mile round trip to save £12 on diesel!” This is the same logic that makes you drive across town to save 2p on a loaf of bread, but with bigger wheels and existential dread.
Also, French drivers hoard diesel. I once saw a man in Lyon buy 80 litres in plastic jerry cans because he “heard the price might go up by Tuesday.” His car couldn’t even hold 80 litres. He was essentially running a fuel-based disaster prep operation out of his garage. The French take cheap diesel very, very seriously.
