What if Rockstar says, "Nope, no crossplay—buy two consoles, sucker!"? Well, we’d riot. But also, we’d still buy the game because we have no self-control. I’m looking at you, pre-order button. It would be a huge bummer for friend groups who can’t afford multiple boxes.

But here’s the thing: GTA Online made over a billion dollars because people play together. Taking away crossplay in 2026 would be like selling a car without wheels. It works, but nobody wants to buy it.
My (Totally Unqualified) Prediction
I’m putting my money on partial crossplay. Think about it: consoles (PlayStation and Xbox) will probably be besties, but PC might be locked out at launch. Rockstar loves drip-feeding features. They’ll add PC crossplay later, after they’ve patched the inevitable glitch where horses fly into space.
Or, they’ll go all-in and blow our minds. Remember when GTA Online was just a tiny thing in GTA V? Look at it now—it’s a universe. Don’t underestimate Rockstar’s ability to do the unexpected.
