Proponents claim alkaline water hydrates better, neutralizes acid, and even fixes your life. Allegedly. They say it can help with acid reflux because it neutralizes stomach acid. There’s a tiny bit of science there, but it’s not a magic potion.
Some studies suggest it might help with blood viscosity after a workout. That’s fancy talk for “your blood flows a little smoother.” But don’t trade your gym membership for a water filter just yet. The evidence is, shall we say, a bit thin—like a bad cup of tea.
The “Caveman” Reality Check
Your body has a tight pH range for your blood—around 7.35 to 7.45. It’s so strict that if you seriously swung it, you’d be in the hospital, not reading an article. Drinking alkaline water won’t make your blood alkaline. Your lungs and kidneys are the real bosses here.
So, does it hydrate better? Probably not. Water is water. If you drink it, you’re hydrated. The alkaline part is just a bonus feature, like a car’s heated seats. Nice, but not essential for getting to work.
