Market Basket runs by a family ethos, for better or worse. They’re famous for paying employees well and, get this, closing on major holidays so everyone can actually, you know, celebrate. It’s a bold move in a world where stores try to sell you a pumpkin spice latte on August 1st. Their stance is refreshingly old-school: “Labor Day? We labor, too. Let’s all take a break.”
So, while other stores fling open their doors at 6 AM with “Holiday Savings!” signs, Market Basket says, “See you Tuesday.” It’s like the friend who says, “I’m not doing anything for my birthday,” and actually means it. You want to be mad, but you can’t. It’s almost too reasonable.
