The idea of Mother's Day originated with Anna Jarvis, who wanted to honor her mom, a social activist. Anna's mom had passed away, and she wanted to find a way to celebrate all mothers, so she campaigned for a national holiday. And, in 1914, she finally succeeded!
But, what's really interesting is that Anna Jarvis later regretted her decision, since she felt that the holiday had become too commercialized. She even spent the rest of her life trying to repeal the holiday! Talk about a plot twist!
So, is Mother's Day the same date every year? Not exactly, but it's always on a Sunday in May. And, while the date might vary, the idea behind the holiday remains the same: to honor and appreciate all the amazing moms out there!
