In the vast majority of cases, the answer is a big, fat, sparkly NO. Next stores are almost always shut on Boxing Day. They’re not open. Nada. Zilch. The doors are locked tighter than a miser’s wallet during a gift exchange.
This isn’t a new trend, by the way. Next has been playing this game for years. They decided that their staff deserve to actually enjoy the holiday season, which is a radical concept in the cut-throat world of retail.
Why? A Lesson in Corporate Sanity
The official reason is that they want to give their employees a proper Christmas break. It’s a shockingly sensible business move. Treat your workers like humans, and they might not quit to go work for a rival that sells slightly cheaper chinos.
There’s also a subtler, more devious genius at play. By staying closed, Next creates a frenzy of pent-up demand. Come December 27th, the queues will be longer than the ones for the loo after a Christmas dinner. It’s pure marketing masochism—in the best way.
