Bank holidays are not all created equal. An Easter Sunday or Christmas Day is a whole other kettle of fish. On those days, almost all Tesco stores are closed completely. Even the Express ones get the day off. If you’re planning a Christmas feast, you’d better stock up on the 23rd or risk a very sad, cold dinner.
I remember one Easter Monday, I confidently strolled into my local Express, only to find a handwritten note: “Closed for the holiday—go enjoy some chocolate.” I stood there, clutching an empty reusable bag, feeling like I’d missed the last train. Always keep an eye on the calendar for the special ones.
Why should you care? (Or, the real stakes)
Here’s the thing: caring about Tesco’s bank holiday hours isn’t just about groceries. It’s about preserving your peace of mind. Picture this: it’s a sunny bank holiday, you’ve got friends coming over for a barbecue, and you realise you forgot the sausages. Or worse, the ketchup. If you know Tesco is open, you can casually pop out, grab what you need, and be back before the coals are ready.
But if you don’t know, you end up panic-driving to three different convenience stores, all of which are closed, and you’re left serving your guests plain bread and a sad look. Nobody wants that. Knowing the hours means you can plan your day properly, without that little knot of “what if” in your stomach.
