Blame the Victorians. They invented bank holidays in 1871. The idea was simple: give bankers a day off so they could play cricket.
The post office? It was just a passenger on that wild ride. No one asked if they wanted a holiday. They got one.
Now? It’s a beautiful mess. Your local post office might close, but the depot behind it might be buzzing like a beehive. Deliveries don’t always stop. It’s chaos.
The Quirky Exception You Need to Know
Here’s the fun part. Christmas Day and Easter Sunday are the only days the Royal Mail truly hibernates. No deliveries. No collections. Total silence.
But bank holiday Monday? They sometimes deliver if they’re feeling cheeky. Especially if your parcel is already on the van. Sneaky, right?
Your best bet? Check the online service status. There’s a tiny, magical page on the Royal Mail website that tells you if your local branch is open. It’s like a treasure map.
