In South Korea, military service is a big part of life for young men, and Kpop idols are no exception. They have to enlist before they turn 30, and once they do, they're in for about two years of rigorous training and service. It's not all bad, though - they get to keep their haircuts pretty short, which can be a nice change from their usual stylish 'dos!
Some Kpop idols have even used their military service as a chance to show off their hidden talents. For example, BTOB's Yook Sung-jae was part of the republican guard, which is a pretty big deal. Others have even gotten awards for their service, like SHINee's Taemin, who won a certificate of appreciation for his good work.
But don't worry, Kpop fans - just because your favorite idols are in the military doesn't mean they're gone for good. Many of them keep in touch with their fans through letters and social media, and some have even been known to perform for their fellow soldiers. It's a great way for them to stay connected to their fans and to show off their patriotism at the same time.
