So, what's a day in the life like? They wake up in custom-built lodges (yes, lodges) near the White Tower. Then they hop out to patrol the grounds, terrorize tourists, and occasionally perform a sky-dance—a mid-air somersault just to show off.
Tower Of London Ravens History
Don't be fooled by the cuteness. These birds can live up to 40 years, and they remember faces. If you annoy one, it will absolutely hold a grudge. Oakley, a former raven, once stole a court judge's wig right off his head during a ceremony. That's iconic.
Their intelligence is off the charts. They can solve puzzles, use tools, and mimic human speech. Some say they can even count—which is terrifying when you realize they know exactly when you’re holding a snack.
The Great Feathery Escape Artists
Here’s the fun part: sometimes they try to leave. But the Ravenmaster has a trick. They clip one wing—not cruelly, just enough to make flying hard. It’s like putting a kid on a short leash at the amusement park.
Even so, some have made a run for it. Grog, a notorious escape artist, once flew into a pub called the Hung, Drawn, and Quartered. He sat at the bar and stared at patrons until they fed him peanuts. He was not asked to leave.
Another raven, Charlie, went MIA for three days. They found him chilling in a tree near the Tower, basically saying, "I just needed a mental health day, Brenda."
