The tour covers 35 locations across the UK, from the Scilly Isles to the Orkney Islands. They’re even hitting towns that usually only see a pigeon doing a loop. Check the RAF website for dates, but be warned: they change routes faster than a teenager changes their phone wallpaper.
Red Arrows join French display team for London and Paris flypasts
Bring a picnic, a blanket, and maybe earplugs for your granny. The noise is a magnificent, gut-rumbling roar. The official guide says it’s “85 decibels at 1,000 feet,” which is about the same volume as a lawnmower having a breakdown.
When the Smoke Hits Your Sandwich
The red, white, and blue smoke trails are made from a secret mix of diesel and dye. Inhaling it is not recommended, but it does smell vaguely like a bonfire at a garden party. A few years ago, a farmer in Lincolnshire claimed the smoke turned his prize sheep’s wool pink. The RAF denied it, but the sheep looked fabulous.
One more gem: the Red Arrows have a cat mascot named “Boss Cat.” He doesn’t fly (obviously—cats hate planes), but he lives at their base and judges their landings with a stern glare. If the landing isn’t perfect, he refuses to eat his tuna. True story.
