Inside the main building, there’s a Visitor Centre that’s actually useful. It’s not one of those dusty rooms with a bored person behind a desk. It’s bright, full of maps, and stuffed with info about the North York Moors. The staff are the type of friendly that makes you think they’ve never had a bad day in their lives. They’ll point you toward the best “easy walk” or the “pub with the best chips” like it’s a sacred duty.
There’s also a little shop selling local goodies, walking sticks, and jars of honey. You’ll go in for a map and come out with a stick you didn’t need and a toffee cake you definitely do need. It’s basically retail therapy with a view of a cliff.

The Gliding Club: For When You Need to Escape
Right next door is the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Watching the gliders float silently overhead is oddly soothing. They don’t make a sound—just whoosh past like enormous, graceful birds that forgot to pay for fuel. It makes you think, “Maybe life isn’t so heavy after all.” Or, more likely, “I bet they have a better sandwich up there.”
On a clear day, you can see them circling like patient angels. It’s the perfect distraction if you’re waiting for your kids to finish a toilet break. And let’s be honest, that’s half of any family outing: waiting for someone to pee while watching a glider.
