First, turn it on. Usually, there’s a single button. Some fancy models have a “Hold” button, but we’ll get to that.
Now, fill a clean glass with the water you want to test. Tap water, bottle water, even pond water if you’re feeling wild.
Gently dip the metal probe end into the water. Don’t dunk the whole thing! Keep the water line below the “Max” line, or you’ll fry the electronics.
Stir it, Don’t Bludgeon It
Swish the meter around gently for a few seconds. This removes any stubborn air bubbles hiding on the sensor.

Wait for the number on the screen to stop jumping around. It’s like waiting for a toddler to make up their mind—give it ten seconds.
If your meter has a “Hold” button, press it to freeze the reading. Then you can pull the meter out and read it without looking like a wet noodle.
