Don’t go to the Banshee Labyrinth if you’re claustrophobic or if you hate ambiance. Go there if you want to feel like you’ve earned your night out. Go there after a rainy walk through the Old Town, when your shoes are wet and your soul needs a little grit.
Order a Fireball whisky just for the laugh. Sit in a corner and watch people try to find the exit. You’ll see couples holding hands nervously, groups of friends getting lost together, and one dude who knows the layout and looks like a wizard.
And when you finally leave—blinking in the harsh light of Niddry Street—you’ll feel a bit like you’ve returned from a quest. You didn’t slay a dragon, but you did find your way out of a labyrinth. And you got a good pint. That’s a win in anyone’s book.
